This beautiful old structure, built in the late 1880/90’s if I recall, was torn down by FDR to build the new 1939 “old Dutch” stone post office you see today. It does look like it was an imposing structure pretty close to the road, so who knows, maybe it was the right thing to do. You can see the old pre-1917 Rhinebeck Hotel in the rear.
