The first picture is postmarked 1928. The old post office stood in the present day Oblong Book plaza. GiGi’s restaurant next door was once a Chevrolet dealership (the sign says “Rhinebeck Auto Sales Co.”). It’s not clear when the post office came down or why (maybe with the 1939 construction of the new post office? You’d think a beautiful building like this could be repurposed.) The building just to the right of the post office, seen in the last picture, is the old Central Hudson Bldg. (which today is part of the Rhinebeck Bank). They must have elevated it to match the older half of the bank.
